Fiorentina snatch win at Pomigliano

08 May 2022

An early strike by Daniela Sabatino was enough to see Fiorentina claim an away win against Pomigliano and secure their place in the division with one game to spare.

There was a great atmosphere at the packed-out Ugo Gobbato before the game, and the players didn’t disappoint the fans with an exciting start. Veronica Boquete wasted no time in making an incursion into the host’s box and taking a shot on goal, which was parried by Sara Cetinja in the Pomigliano goal but Sabatino was on hand and alert to finish.

A subsequent downpour made conditions tricky for both sides and while there were chances for Pomigliano to find an equaliser and for Fiorentina to put the game out of sight there were to be no further goals.

Fiorentina hung on for the win and celebrate having survived in the top flight for another season. They will close the league season next weekend in a match against Empoli back home in Florence.
