Viola see off Juventus to reach the final!

09 March 2024

Fiorentina Women defeated Juventus 3-1 in the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg to finish the job in style following their 1-0 win in Florence and book their spot in the final.

Sebastian De La Fuente's side took just four minutes to build on their first-leg advantage. Veronica Boquete's free kick struck the crossbar but Madelen Janogy was the quickest to react and turn in the loose ball.

The expected reaction from the hosts was not forthcoming and Fiorentina seized control of the game. Midway through the half Michela Catena was brought down in the box and the ref pointed to the spot. Boquete stepped up and made it 2-0 on the day.

That did seem to spark the Bianconere into action and Katja Schroffenegger had to be at her best to thwart Cristiana Girelli.

Asia Bragonzi halved the deficit on the stroke of half time immediately after Emma Severini had been denied a third by Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.

However, Janogy put the Viola out of sight five minutes into the second half when she volleyed in Emma Faerge's floated delivery.

It didn't stop Juventus trying to force their way back into the contest and Schroffenegger was called into action on more than one occasion to keep the scoreline intact.

Fiorentina can now look forward to a cup-final meeting with Roma or AC Milan on 25/26 May. Before then they have eight games in the Scudetto play-offs to secure Champions League football, starting next Saturday away to Sassuolo.
