Juventus run out 4-0 winners
It was an off night for Fiorentina Women, whose eighth fixture in a busy September packed full of Champions League and Serie A matches ended in disappointment. A team deprived of Sofia Tortelli, Julia Lundin and Amalie Bredgaard managed to keep the hosts out until 40 minutes into the contest when Arianna Caruso opened the scoring with a right-footed effort.
Sebastian de la Fuente’s side made a strong start to the second half, but were dealt a killer blow when Amalie Vangsgaard doubled Juve’s advantage in lucky fashion. The visitors’ attempts to stage a comeback were thwarted by goals by Paulina Krumbiegel and Martina Rosucci as the second half wore on.
“The result isn’t a fair reflection of the match,” explained coach De la Fuente. “After the second goal, we didn’t react well. I think we were a bit short of reserves after seven games in a month. We need to work hard to improve where there are shortcomings. We have another match to look forward to on Saturday.”
Fiorentina now sit third in the table, three points adrift of Juventus and one point behind Inter. The team’s next encounter is against Como Women at Viola Park on Saturday for a 12:30 (CEST) kick-off.
